Meet the DCC Elders: Jeremiah Fleischman

Name:

Jeremiah Fleischman

Family:

Becky (The most Beautiful, Loving & empathetic woman on the planet & She is my Wife!), Tobiah, Addison & Elliot (Craziest, Strongest & Prettiest girls you’ll ever meet)

Occupation:

Husband, father, Metallurgist @ General Motors Casting Operations in Defiance, OH

How did you meet your wife?

I’m almost certain it was arranged.  Becky’s Dad is an elder at the church that hired my Dad to minister.  She was in 5th grade and I was in 7th.  Throughout the years she thought I was dumb and a typical “boy”, but a Sunday School teacher kept insisting that we were going to get together.  One day, when we were in highschool, Bec wore this green velvety dress to church and I was struck!  I kept my eye on her and eventually I was able to overcome my talent for being stupid and realized that I needed this beauty in my life.  We began dating, and then stopped (entirely my fault), but eventually I was able to overcome my talent for being stupid and realized that I needed to keep this beauty in my life.  So in the summer of ’95, as we were driving through the ‘S’ curves on M140 we used the Love word.  Here we are today and Bec still has to help me overcome my natural ability for being stupid!  I simply must say that I am who I am today because of the tenacity and endurance of my Savior and my Wife, who continually accept, correct and love me despite my natural ability to be stupid.

Hobbies:

Spending time with my wife and kids, reading & working out.

Hidden Talents:

I can tell you what you are doing wrong with your golf swing.  I can’t fix it, or show you how to do it correctly…  just tell you what is wrong.  that’s a talent, right?  I can play guitar, nothing fancy, but I enjoy it.  Jack of many things, but master of none.

Favorite place to eat:

It used to be any place with the words “buffet” or “all you can eat” in the title, but as I noted in my hobbies, I like to work out, and getting a workout walking back and forth to the buffet table, doesn’t count.  However, I really enjoy Olive Garden and Wendy’s.

Which Bible person would you like to have dinner with (Other than Jesus) and why?

Job.  I have always always always been dumbfounded at Job’s faithfulness.  Yes, he asked God, “Why?” and wished he would just die, but he never doubted that God was in control.  He never doubted that God was his deliverer from all the earthly troubles that experience.

What excites you about serving as an Elder at DCC?

Have you ever felt like you were on a bubble and it was ready to burst?  I believe that DCC is ready to burst. I believe that we are growing followers of Christ that will, in turn, grow more followers of Christ.  I am excited about mature Christians coming along side their new Brothers and Sisters and teaching them by word and example what it means to love Jesus more today that we did yesterday.

What can the congregation at DCC pray for you?

Pray for diligence, endurance & courage.  Some days being and elder, Christian, husband, father, employee is hard because satan is always trying to draw my attention to something other than Christ and His Bride.  Pray for me that I will lead and love my wife and kids the way Jesus does.

Video Testimonies

Church Family:

We are researching a “video testimony” project for our church website.  Those participating would sit down with me and record a short testimony about what Christ has done in their life.

It was inspired by this church (http://www.thevillagechurch.net/flower-mound/about-us/stories-of-life-change/video-testimonies/). If any of you are interested in recording a testimony, please visit that link (to check it out) and then let me know as soon as possible.
I see this as a great way to glorify God and spread the word about what Jesus is doing in each of our lives.
